If you were playing Consulting-Jargon Buzzword Bingo, then “behaviour change”, “location-based mobile services” and “gamification” would have you calling House. (Gamification is, unfortunately, an increasingly frequently used word). GetUpp is a new service that combines these ideas. In English, it’s a game on your phone that encourages you to do things that are good for you. GetUpp does this by embracing the motivating power of shame. You say you’ll do something (like go to the gym), tell your friends and they vote on how likely it is that you’ll succeed. If you fail to check in at the gym, your failure is automatically posted on your Facebook wall. As an idea, it couldn’t be more faddish, but it’s an interesting twist on public commitments. READ MORE
