Firetail works to help our clients make better and smarter choices, so that they can make a difference to their causes and their communities.

To achieve this, we strive to offer independent, trusted and insightful support.

Our work falls into three categories:

  • Strategy: We believe that charities and civil society groups need a strategy as strong as their values. We help our clients to develop a clear point of view about the future and their place in it. In practice, ‘strategy’ is a case of working out what’s going on, and what to do about it. We are one of the few firms to offer expert, professional strategy consulting services to civil society organisations.
  • Insight: Good strategy is based on insight. To act strategically, you need to understand your sector, your stakeholders, customers and beneficiaries. Our work in insight includes a full range of stakeholder engagement tools and qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. Insight is only as useful as the action it inspires. We work to connect the insight we generate to real, practical plans.
  • Learning: We support our clients to learn from what they do, evaluate their outcomes and improve their effectiveness. We believe evaluation should be about learning, and that effective evaluation connects to strategy. This creates a virtuous circle of learning and improvement. Much of our work in this area is delivered through the ALINe initiative, which is dedicated to improving monitoring, learning and evaluation in the agricultural development sector. We also conduct advocacy, programme and campaign evaluations for clients trying to measure the impact of their work across a range of other sectors.
